Bent wood, rattan, wrought iron, or brass give you the best eye appeal in a floor-standing coat rack. And look for furniture-quality solid hardwood in wall-mounted coat racks. Don’t settle for generic, dime-store coat hooks on your coat rack when you can easily combine the beauty of brass and porcelain or get the rustic strength of wrought iron.

You can find wall-mounted coat racks with rosemaling, or other styles of decorative painting. These always add to your accent, as do such features as a plate rack or decorative shelf on top that allows you to display other collectibles.

And a mirror, whether etched or plain, on your wall-mounted coat rack is always a big plus. Not only does it enhance the beauty of your accent, but it provides a much appreciated service to your guests of letting them check their appearance after coming in from outdoors.

The kids have moved away, and now you suddenly find yourself with an extra room in the house. Unless you’re in dire need of a home office, why not make that extra room into a game room? After all, you’ve worked hard enough, now it’s time to play, and the game room can be a room full of excitement and fun.

There was a time when you could only afford the luxury of a game room if you had a basement, and that usually meant a couch and a billiard table. However, in this age of technology the game room most likely will have a big screen TV and a game console with lots of video games. Few will still have a billiard table. One reason is because most rooms are not as big as a basement and a billiard table would take most of the space available.

Since this should be a family room, or a room for you and your friends to get together for fun, why not add a game table you can use to play board games, and perhaps a soccer table, or an air hockey game table. These won’t take up as much room as a pool table. If it’s in your budget, a jukebox can add to the fun and atmosphere!

First, be sure to use bright colors. Stay away from dark colors – no one wants to play in a dark room. Down is defined as fine, soft, fluffy feathers forming the first plumage of a young bird and underlying the contour feathers in certain adult birds. The shape of a down unit or ‘cluster’ gives it loft and traps the air to keep you warm. Down can be one dimensional; flat with quills, two dimensional, or rounded, three dimensional or representing the shape of a dandelion seed pod.

Down comes in two types, Duck and Goose. As far as the warmth factor go duck and goose are equal. The difference lies in the fact that duck down clusters take up a smaller area. In order to make a full comforter, manufacturers compensate by offering higher fill ounces for duck down.

Down is actually measured in the U.S. using a method known as “fill power”. Basically this translates into the amount of fluff the down has. The higher the fill power number the better the quality of the down fill. A fill power of 600 is considered good quality, 700-800 is considered excellent quality and anything over 800 is considered superb quality.

The weight of the down blanket also makes a big difference in the warmth. When you are looking for a down comforter it is important that you know what you want in the weight and fill power. A heavy comforter will provide a lot of warmth, maybe too much if you live in a warm climate or are used to sleeping with lighter sheets. Some prefer to sleep with fewer blankets, even on a cold night so a lighter weight would be better in that case. If you prefer to bundle up and soak in the warmth, a high fill power and heavy weight would be the best choice for you. You may also want to consider purchasing a lighter weight for the summer and a heavier blanket set for the winter months.
