Children’s Safety and window coverings

There are many ways that a child could be at risk in any home, especially with window coverings. Take a moment to look around your house to see if there are any areas that could be improved. You might even want to get on your hands and knees so you can be at a childs eye level and see what they see.

When it comes to window coverings, there are precaution you can and should take. Here are a few;

1. On Vertical Blinds, use the wand control option so you don’t have a dangling cord that a child could easily get wrapped up in.

2. For existing blinds with long cords, consider cutting the cords short so you have enough cord to operate them but eliminating the puddle of cords on the ground.

3. Some companies offer a break through tassel with blinds that need to have longer cords. Check to see if your manufacture offers something similar.

4. Consider using a motorized blind or shade.

5. Look into cordless blind and shade. These are becoming more popular and are very easy to operate. All you have to do is lift them up.

Choosing The Best Plants For Your Garden

Excited, that’s how you felt when you saw that space in your backyard. And you bought some plants, but without even considering first what kind of soil you have at your garden, or perhaps, without planning carefully what kind of plants will survive. Now your garden is a mess. Think it over.

Before buying plants you should be attentive of where are you going to place the plants in the garden – shade-loving plants for the sheltered areas, sun-lovers for the warm spots, drought-resistant plants for the parched areas which may be either sunny or shaded, and swamp plants for the poorly-drained parts. Once you decided with your selections it is time to choose how you are going to position them in your garden.

Take a look at these pointers:

What to plant

Do you want fruits, vegetables, flowers? Remember to start small; you can always increase the size of your garden if you choose to. But do it gradually. This is particularly important if you’re in a budget, of course.

Test your soil first, to determine the pH level of your soil and what kind of nutrients you need to add. You can alter the garden soil’s pH. However, it is a lot easier to maintain a garden without having to alter it’s soil’s pH level. This calls for choosing plants that will survive with the kind of pH your garden soil has.

Ceramic Mural Tile: Take A Closer Look

From its beginnings in 13th century Morocco, ceramic mural tile has been a staple in American design and décor. Although ceramic tile making was a craft known to the Egyptian, Chinese, and Babylonian ancients, the methods of its creation that we employ today stem directly from those early Moroccan artisans of ceramic mural tile.

Although ceramic mural tile goes through phases of popularity, its appeal reached an apex during the Arts & Crafts movement, which endured until the 1920s. Because of the current resurgence of interest in the Arts & Crafts period, ceramic mural tile has once again experienced a surge in status among designers, decorators, and, of course, ceramic mural tile artisans.

Learning the craft of making ceramic mural tile takes more than an inherent artistic talent. It also entails becoming educated about such things as different clays, paints, firing techniques, kilns and other firing equipment, and a host of minute details only someone truly committed to the task would undergo. Most serious ceramic tile artisans spend a lifetime not only fine-tuning their craft, but constantly searching for means and methods of improving their techniques and learning about the latest and best processes necessary for creating quality ceramic mural tile for their patrons.

An awareness of the length of time and the commitment necessary to learn the techniques of creating high-quality ceramic mural tile makes it easier to understand the sometimes eyebrow-raising prices these artisans require. Most of them with reputations for superior work ask for – and get – sixty dollars or more per hour to create custom ceramic mural tile offerings for customers with specialized requests.

A Review Of Air Conditioner Filters And Furnace Filters

There are some very important things that you should do to extend the life of your air conditioner and keep it working at peak efficiency at all times. One of the most important things that you can do is change your air filter every three to six months.

Many factors determine how often air filters should be changed. Equipment efficiency declines if you wait too long and operating costs increase. Replacing your air conditioner filter too often can be a waste of your hard earned money, especially if you are using an expensive type of filter. A possible solution to this is to use electrostatic filters which you clean and reuse.

It is important to keep in mind that the more efficient your air conditioner filter is the more often it will have to be cleaned or replaced. For most people, pleated filters will do an adequate job. These filters are ten to sixty percent efficient and some manufacturers claim even higher efficiencies.

Pleated air conditioner filters should be changed every three to six months depending on how dusty it is where you live. If you live in an area with lots of dust then your filter may need to be changed every couple of months.

Choosing A Garden Fence

Garden fencing can serve many purposes, but one of the best is to accent and define areas of your garden. Whether you choose a six or twelve inch high border edging, or stand a section of post and rail garden fencing in the center of a sweep of lawn, garden fencing can add a beautiful accent to your landscaping.

Wood lattice makes attractive garden fencing that affords some privacy while allowing glimpses of the garden. Lattice boards set into a wooden privacy fence add a whole new design dimension to the frontage of your garden. A single width of lattice fencing can provide a screen or windbreak, and support for any climbing vines.

Set a lattice panel at the edge of the garden nearest the house and train morning glories to climb it to provide a scenery wall outside a kitchen or bedroom window, or create a simple arbor with two full height lattice panels set six to eight feet apart. Use thick garden twine to create a ‘bridge’ for vines to climb across and form a living ‘roof’.

Border edging is another extremely versatile garden fencing option. Think outside the perimeter. You can use wire garden fencing to create smaller accents within a garden plot, or outline one corner or end of a garden with cast iron border edging.

Ceiling Cladding Systems Using versatile Plastics

Ceiling cladding can consist of ceiling panels that can be attached to each other flush, to create a uniform flat surface. The ceiling cladding can cover an existing ceiling for decorative or other purposes, or they can be a false ceiling at a desired height that might cover piping or cabling.

A Look at Ceilings

A ceiling is not a structural element but an overhead surface that can serve aesthetic, acoustic or other functions. Ceilings like those of a cathedral can give an impression of great heights.

Ceilings have been the focus of much attention in historic buildings such as the Sistine Chapel. They were decorated with paintings, tiles or other kinds of finish. In dwelling houses, timber was often used to create an aesthetic ceiling.

Plastic Ceiling Cladding

PVC ceiling claddings offer a modern solution. These ceiling cladding can be installed comparatively easily using interlocking plastic panels that neatly fit into each other. Perimeters are finished with solutions like J edges.

Plastic ceiling panels come in different colors and can provide a great look. This type of ceiling can be cleaned easily, and is also durable, unaffected by insect infestation and weather changes. PVC ceiling cladding can provide a degree of insulation and prevent condensation.
